Ghost Busting
: is a term that is associated with getting rid of unwanted ghosts or
entities from places where they are not desirable. The term has possibly
been popularized by a Hollywood Film called 'Ghost Busters'.
Although this film had quite a humorous slant to it, in real life, it would
appear, that ghost busting services are sometimes required to get rid of
unwanted 'visitors'. The Internet has a number of organizations that claim
to offer help with these unwanted 'visitors' and other things that go 'bump
in the night'. Some people actually make a hobby out of ghost hunting,
which, unlike ghost busting, is less about trying to rid oneself of ghosts;
but is more about trying to observe and capture the phenomenon on film.
Traditionally, if someone felt that they or their property were under threat
by a ghostly presence; they would typically call for a priest or someone
from the church to bless them or their property. In the event that this did
not succeed they would possibly then ask a clergyman to perform, what is
commonly referred to as an exorcism. This is an act or process of invoking
supernatural aid by the use of a magical form of words. The dictionary
defines the term exorcism as:
Ghost hunting : means literally what is
says i.e. hunting for ghosts. Various research groups have been set up to
investigate the phenomenon of ghosts; some do it as a hobby and some take
the subject much more seriously. Ghosts are known to frequent certain
places more often than others, graveyards seem to be an obvious common
starting point. For more information see also ghosts and ghost hunting
equipment.
Ghostly Transport
: is a phenomenon that challenges the commonly held view that ghosts are
spirits of the dead. There are a wide variety of reports about phantom
vehicles or ghostly forms of transport some forms reported more often than
others. Out of all of the reports of ghostly transport, ghostly cars are
possibly one of the rarest forms of phantom vehicle. One of the theories
behind this, is that the car is a relatively recent invention which has left
little time for the phenomenon to become established. It would seem that
many reports of phantom cars appear, sadly, to be linked to tragic road
accidents. However, the predecessors to cars, namely horses and carriages,
do tend to be much more frequently reported, probably due to them being
around much longer. Apparently, phantom trains account for one of the more
common forms of ghostly vehicle. They are said to appear, usually at the
site of a rail disaster. One example of this was the Tay Rail Bridge
disaster in Scotland in 1879. Here a bridge collapsed in a bad storm,
leaving the oncoming train to plunge into a river below. Unfortunately,
there were no survivors, and since the bridge was repaired, there have
several reports of a phantom train disappearing near the middle of the
reparations. As with all forms of phantom transport there does not always
have to have been a tragic accident beforehand, for example Abraham
Lincoln's funeral train. This phantom funeral train is said to pass along
the original route taken by Lincoln's funeral train. Witnesses have
reported it passing along, complete with a skeletal band on one of the
wagons, playing an unidentified tune.
There are even reports of ghostly planes that appear to be apparitions of
military planes from the world war. Sightings of such phenomenon appear to
be more common over Britain, France and Germany. This could be linked to
the number of craft lost during the last world war. It would appear that
there isn't anything specific that triggers the materialization of these
ghostly planes, although it is suggested that violent storms may invoke a
few.
Ships are a much older from of transport than cars and planes and as a
result reports of ghostly ships abound. One example is an 18th century ship
called 'The Flying Dutchman'. In this tale the captain of the ship, Henrik
van der Decken is alleged to have sworn in a fit of rage; that he would
round the Cape of Good Hope even if it meant sailing for all eternity and
straight into the wind. He even suggested that God himself could not
stop him. Legend now has it that the ghostly ship appears during stormy
weather off the Cape of Good Hope, at Africa's southern tip during stormy
weather. On board is van Decken, who because of his evil nature and
taunting of God is condemned to sail forever into the wind. Mariners fear
the sighting of 'The flying Dutchman' because it is said to be a bad omen,
and any sailor that spots it, will be thus doomed to join van Decken and his
ghostly crew in their special form of damnation.

white transparent ball that is not visible to the naked eye until the film

they are lost souls or souls of pre-Christian people doomed to
walk the earth until they finally disappear. They have also been described

Britons.

Haunting Ghosts
: are considered by psychical researchers to be different in kind to
apparitions. Generally apparitions only tend to appear once, sometimes in a
place unknown to the agent and usually to someone with whom the apparition
has some relationship. Often the apparition will seem to communicate with
the percipient in some way, by means of a look, touch or even speech. A
haunting ghost however almost always appears to be unaware of the people
around it and also it appears to be more connected with a place as opposed
to a human. Although there are exceptions to the rule the majority of
haunting ghosts haunt alone. Occasionally groups of phantoms are seen, for
example processions of chanting monks or spectral armies, but these do tend
to be the exception. There have been many theories put forward to explain
haunting ghosts. Some evidence suggests that ‘one’s ability to see a
phantom or sense a presence depends partly on some lingering aspect of the
person seen or sensed’.

the Jersey Devil is a legend, a mythical beast, that originated from the
folklore of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Others disagree with this point of

death. Often persons who have experienced a near death experience report a
feeling of having left their physical body, moving through a darkness or
tunnel, encountering the presences of deceased loved ones, and sometimes
other entities which have been likened to both God and the Devil.
Often an all embracing and describable light or menacing darkness is

most persons who have encountered a near death experience often say that the
event was totally life changing. They often report that they have glimpsed
the whole meaning of life or have been imparted with informat Occult

surgeons, from a vantage point above the table. Here the consciousness is
said to have left the physical body, but will remain close.

spirits of the deceased. A modern day Ouija board is usually a wooden or

piece of apparatus on rotating castors or wheels with a pointer. The
operators of the board lightly place their fingers on the slideable device
